Registered Veterinary Technician - Surgery Department

· Victoria, British Columbia
Employment Type Full-Time
Minimum Experience Experienced
Compensation $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Are you an experienced and team-oriented Registered Veterinary Technician with a true passion for specialty surgery? Let’s talk!

We are currently seeking a full-time Lead Technician for the surgery department of our locally-owned veterinary hospital. If you appreciate the magic that can happen when you’re part of a close-knit team working in laser-focused unison (dosed with a good sense of humour) to make surgeries run smoothly, this is the role for you.

Working in partnership with our board-certified specialty surgeon and veterinarians, supported by a dedicated surgical assistant, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive and compassionate patient care. You will also have the chance to support our consulting veterinarians with GP cases, using the full range of your RVT skills and knowledge.

We respect your professional expertise and give you the tools, support, and independence to succeed and hone your skills. We also strive to consciously ‘walk the walk’ of creating a thriving team culture. Our daily rounds, weekly updates, and monthly staff meetings keep our communication lines clear, while regular better-than-work events like bowling or hosted gin tastings definitely bring the fun! Word has gotten around about our positive workplace vibe - we have been invited to pilot a program through Not One More Vet helping veterinary practices prioritize mental wellbeing in the workplace.

We offer above-average compensation and strong benefits, including generous CE and dues coverage, paid wellness days, dental and extended health benefits, a scrub allowance, and profit-sharing. Your companion animals will receive veterinary care at a discounted price, ensuring they feel like part of the family too. RVTs work four 10-hour days per week with no evenings or on-call shifts; we are closed Sundays and open shorter hours on Saturdays.

We’re looking for a surgical technician who is:

  • Experienced and confident in diagnostic imaging, surgery, and anesthesia
  • Interested in learning loco-regional anesthesia and advanced pain management techniques
  • Highly motivated to provide exceptional patient care and deliver an outstanding client experience
  • Interested in developing and maintaining relationships with our referring veterinary community
  • A clear and respectful communicator (written and verbal)
  • Able to naturally multitask, prioritize, and effectively shift plans in changing circumstances
  • Passionate about cleanliness, details, and optimizing workflow
  • Determined to seek out the positive and encourage your colleagues to succeed with you
  • Experienced in a referral practice, emergency hospital, or an ICU setting

Here, we value your voice, respect your knowledge, and will support you as you continue to build your expertise in the areas of veterinary medicine that light you up. We have an amazing team because we seek out and nurture awesome humans. The only thing we love more than great ideas to improve our patient care is working together to put those ideas into action. Apply today to join us!

PS - We have a generous signing bonus to help with moving costs! Our hospital is located on the southern peninsula of beautiful Vancouver Island, surrounded by tranquil beaches in all four directions and the mountains just a short drive away.
